Border Chain is a geography puzzle game where you travel from one country to another using only shared land borders. Each day, a new challenge pairs two countries โ your goal is to find the shortest possible path between them by naming countries that share borders with each other.
The game shows you the neighbors of your current country as clickable chips โ simply tap a neighboring country to add it to your chain. The optimal path length is shown so you know what to aim for. Can you match the optimal? Use the Hint button if you're stuck โ it reveals the next step in the optimal path without giving away the whole solution.
The key to Border Chain is knowing which countries are "hubs" โ countries with many neighbors that connect different regions. Russia borders 14 countries, making it the most connected country in the world. China borders 14 countries. France borders 8. These hub countries are essential for creating short chains across continents.
Some routes require creative thinking โ to get from South America to Asia, you'll need to pass through North America and Russia, or find another path. The game uses a BFS algorithm to calculate the true optimal path, so the hint system always gives you the most efficient route.
After completing a Border Chain puzzle, share your result with friends โ the share button creates a text showing your full country chain with flag emojis. Challenge friends to find a shorter path and see who knows their world borders best.
